
Health Plans
PEIA offers four Preferred Provider Benefit (PPB) Plans: PPB Gold, Silver, Gold High Deductible & WV Bronze High Deductible for Active Employees. Non-Medicare Retirees, if eligible, may enroll in PPB Gold or Silver, but not PPB Gold High Deductible or WV Bronze High Deductible plans. PPB Plan medical and prescription claims are paid by UMR and Express Scripts.
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) Plans and one Point of Service (POS) Plan are offered through The Health Plan of WV.
Humana provides medical and prescription drug benefits for Medicare-primary members through the Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Program.
Special Medicare Plan benefits are available for PEIA insureds who have Medicare as their primary insurance coverage, but are not enrolled in the Humana/PEIA Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan. Medical and prescription claims are paid by UMR and Express Scripts.

Special Medicare Plan
PEIA Special Medicare Plan benefits are available for PEIA insureds who have Medicare as their primary insurance coverage, but are not enrolled in the Humana/PEIA Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan. Enrollment in the Special Medicare Plan is generally for no more than one calendar year. Under the Special Medicare plan, the member purchases traditional Medicare Parts A and B, and their secondary medical and prescription claims are paid byUMR and Express Scripts, respectively. Medical benefits under the Special Medicare Plan are generally the same as those provided under PEIA’s Medicare Advantage plan.

Prescription Drug Coverage
Active Employees and Non-Medicare Retirees have prescription drug coverage provided through Express Scripts. Prescription drug lists for Active Employees and Non-Medicare Retirees can be found on our Prescription Benefits page.
Medicare Retirees have prescription drug coverage provided through Humana. Prescription drug lists for Humana members can be found on Humana's website.
Supplemental Benefits
Mountaineer Flexible Benefits provides optional insurance coverage, including dental benefits, optical benefits, flexible spending accounts, disability insurance and more. Not all PEIA members are covered under the plan. Members who are covered bear the cost of optional insurance with pre-tax earnings. Retirees can elect for some coverage with after-tax earnings.

Life Insurance Coverage is provided through MetLife. Active members receive basic term life insurance ($10,000) at no cost and may purchase optional life insurance coverage with pre-tax earnings through MetLife. Non-Medicare retirees and Medicare retirees may purchase basic and optional life insurance from MetLife.
