Important Reminder for Retirees in the Special Medicare Plan

11/27/2018

Retirees who have become Medicare eligible within the last 12 months will be moving to the Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan (MAPD) with Humana on January 1, 2019. You should be receiving information from Humana, including a new medical ID card.  Beginning January 1, you will only need to use your Humana card - so please make sure to store your red, white and blue Medicare card somewhere safe. Please note that medical and prescription deductibles reset with the Medicare plan year on January 1, as well.

While medical benefits under the Humana Medicare Advantage plan are generally the same as benefits under the Special Medicare Plan, the cost of non-preferred brand name medications is different. Under the Humana/PEIA Plan 1, the cost-sharing for a 30-day supply of a non-preferred drug is 50% of the cost of the drug (in the Special Medicare Plan this cost-sharing is 75%) and maintenance medications in this category are NOT eligible for the maintenance medication discount.

As a member of the Humana Medicare Advantage Plan, you will now have access to the SilverSneakers fitness benefit. SilverSneakers includes access to 13,000+ fitness locations* nationwide, group exercise classes led by certified instructors, and online resources.  Eligible plan members simply show their personal SilverSneakers ID number at the front desk of any participating location to use the benefit.  You may get your SilverSneakers ID number and find locations and classes at www.silversneakers.com.  If you have additional questions, call 1-888-423-4632 (TTY: 711) Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.

*At-home kits are offered for members who want to start working out at home or for those who can’t get to a fitness location due to injury, illness or being homebound.
