Adjustments to Salary Tiers

7/27/2018

Effective August 1, 2018, PEIA will adjust salary tiers upward by $2,700 for each tier to account for the recent pay increase. This change was adopted by the PEIA Finance Board on June 21, in response to a request from Governor Jim Justice.

When the Legislature passed the pay raise bill, PEIA did an analysis and discovered that more than 14,000 public employees would have moved into a higher salary tier, increasing their premiums, deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums if this action to adjust the tiers was not taken.

Whenever an employee's salary changes necessitating a tier adjustment, PEIA does that tier adjustment on the first day of the month following the salary increase. This change is no different; salaries increased on July 1, and the premium adjustment will take place on August 1.
