PPB Member ID Card Activation

6/25/2019

PEIA PPB Plan Policyholders,
UMR, our new third-party administrator, mailed new medical ID cards last week, and policyholders are already receiving them. There's a sticker on the card encouraging you to call and activate your new card. Yesterday we became aware of an issue with UMR's phone system not recognizing PEIA Policyholders' member ID numbers. Here's what you need to know:
  • Your new medical ID card will work on July 1, whether or not you call UMR.
  • The activation process is about collecting information about other health insurance you or your covered dependents have. If you call and activate your card, you'll update your other insurance information, and your claims won't be pended for other insurance information while UMR sends you a letter asking you questions. It's important, but not critical.
  • You can activate your card now by calling UMR and entering your Social Security number instead of the medical ID number. Their system will recognize your Social Security Number.
  • UMR has committed to having this programming problem resolved by Friday. You can call them on Friday (or after) enter your ID number and follow the prompts to activate or you can ignore the activation message and your card will work on 7/1, although some claims may be pended for Other Insurance Information once the plan year starts.
  • PEIA's Customer Service Unit cannot assist with this issue, since it's a contractor's programming problem.
We regret the problems this glitch has caused, and appreciate your patience!
Your PEIA Team
